Here are some tips that may help you to take care of your teeth. Practicing good oral hygiene along with regular dental checkups go a long way in maintaining a healthy mouth

  • Brush your teeth at least twice daily. It is recommended to brush after every meal but in case that is not possible then make it a habit to brush atleast twice daily. Use a toothbrush with small, round head and soft bristles.
  • Use a toothpaste with fluoride as it hardens the enamel and prevents tooth decay
  • Brush thoroughly for atleast 2-3 minutes
  • Floss your teeth daily before going to bed
  • Avoid acidic drinks such as fruit juices, soft drinks etc. as it may cause cavities
  • Limit intake of sugary and starch food items as bacteria in plaque acts on it to produce acids that may cause cavities
  • Rinsing with mouthwash or chewing gum after meals may reduce gum problems and tooth decay.
  • While playing sports wear protective head gear to save your teeth from injury
  • Knocked out tooth can be saved by holding it back in position or putting the tooth in a plastic cover or immersing it in milk
  • Do not use teeth to crack nuts or open cans as it may result in chipped or broken teeth
  • Visit your dentist regularly or in case of emergency
